Holland Dominates, Rangers Shutout Mariners

The Texas Rangers clinched the current series against the Seattle Mariners with an 8-0 win on the road Tuesday.

On The Mound

Derek Holland was handed the ball Tuesday as the Rangers looked to win back to back games against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday. Holland made another quality start going 6.2 innings for Texas in a game that put them a game above .500. Holland gave up four hits in his 6.2 innings allowing no runs, walking two and tallying four strikeouts. After the game, Holland heaped praise on his teammates, pointing to their defensive play as the catalyst for the shutout win.

Andrew Faulkner and Phil Klein kept the prowess of the Texas Rangers bullpen alive not allowing a baserunner for the remaining 2.1 innings of baseball left. Klein got the most work throwing both the eighth and the ninth inning, facing the minimum and striking out two. Klein has thrown 3 innings now on this young season and has yet to allow a baserunner so far.

At The Plate

The Texas Rangers scored seven more runs than they needed to in Tuesday’s win spraying twelve hits in the 9 inning contest. Adrian Beltre put together the best offensive performance of the season for the Rangers going 2-4 with a double and a homerun driving in five of the Rangers eight runs.

Delino DeShields, Elvis Andrus and Ryan Rua all recorded multi-hit games Tuesday with the latter two both hitting above .350 so far this season. Nomar Mazara has also recorded a hit in each of his first three Major League games going 1-5 against the Mariners.

Extra Notes

Nomar Mazara had a couple of web gems for the Texas Rangers in the outfield on Tuesday to go along with his hit. The first was a diving catch in the second inning to rob Chris Iannetta of extra bases. The second catch came in the third when Mazara made an on-the-run catch in right center field.
