Jose Quintana and the White Sox got the best of the Texas Rangers last night, shutting them out in the 5-0 loss.

On The Mound

The Texas Rangers sent Martin Perez to the mound Friday night against the Chicago White Sox as he searched for his first win of the season. Perez struggled against the White Sox offense giving up five runs on five hits in 5.2 innings. Perez struggled to miss bats all night, in turn, struggling to get outs.

In relief, the bullpen pitched well once again. Phil Klein, called up to replace Keone Kela, threw 1.1 innings giving up no runs on just two hits. Tom Wilhelmsen threw the eighth inning for Texas, also making a scoreless appearance. Wilhelmsen walked two and struck out one in his inning of work.

At The Plate

Offensively, the Rangers struggled to get anything going the entire game. They totaled just five hits in the contest with four of those hits coming off the bats of Prince Fielder and Adrian Beltre. Bryan Holaday recorded the fifth hit for the Texas Rangers coming out of the nine spot.

In a highlight of the season for everybody except Texas Rangers fans as Texas had the first triple play of 2016 turned on them. The play came on a bases loaded fly out to right field in which numerous base running miscues led to an out at first and Fielder being tagged out at third.

Injury Report

Yu Darvish elected to throw another live batting practice session which will push his first minor league rehab start back to May 1st. With this, Darvish could still make his Major League return as soon as May 16th against Oakland.

Keone Kela underwent elbow surgery to remove a bonespur in his throwing elbow yesterday. He’s expected to miss at least twelve weeks in recovery.
