The Texas Rangers have a strong squad heading into Spring Training, but lack depth. Mainly the Rangers are missing quality outfield depth. Could Desmond Jennings be a fit with the Rangers?

Is outfielder Desmond Jennings on the radar of the Texas Rangers? Jennings was once one of the fastest players in the Major Leagues. Injuries have derailed him in recent years, but he still has value to offer an MLB club.

In 2016 Jennings hit .200/.281/.350 with seven homers and 20 RBI in 65 games with the Tampa Bay Rays. Jennings was released by the Rays in August and has yet to find a team this off-season. Jennings is only 30-years-old and could offer plenty to a Major League team.

Health is an obvious concern for the seven-year MLB veteran. Jennings has not played in over 100 games since the 2014 season. He could be a solid bench option for the Rangers though.

The Rangers are looking to add speed this off-season and Jennings has three seasons with 20 or more steals. Jennings offers above average defense to go along with his speed and the Rangers could use a player like him.

Injuries crushed Shin-Soo Choo last season and the Rangers would like to give him more time at DH in 2017. Delino DeShields has not proven he can be a quality MLB option yet. Jennings could be a solid fourth outfielder for the Rangers.

Jennings could be an option for the Rangers against left-handed pitching. He also gives the Rangers depth in case of injury. Jennings is a cheap option with Major League experience that could provide some help to the Rangers in 2017.
