The Rangers have been without veteran third baseman Adrian Beltre for the beginning of the 2017 season. He is not in the lineup on Sunday, but could be back in the Rangers lineup soon.

A tight calf has forced Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre onto the 10 day disabled list. According to T.R. Sullivan, Beltre took live batting practice off Minor League pitchers on Saturday. He is also running the bases, but not at top speed just yet.

Rangers manager Jeff Banister told T.R. Sullivan, “I don’t think he’s been 100 percent yet,” “100 percent is a little bit of a misnomer in practice; 100 percent in game speed, the only way to get to that is to get in games. There’s a practice speed of 100 percent, and I don’t know that he’s at that yet.”

The team has decided to play it safe and did not put Beltre in their lineup on Sunday against the Oakland Athletics. That doesn’t mean Beltre is having a setback, but with an off day on Monday, the Rangers would rather play it safe and give him a couple of days extra rest.

On Sunday Beltre went to play for Double-A Frisco to get some much needed at-bats. If everything goes well then expect Beltre to be back in the lineup as soon as the beginning of next week. Luckily, the Rangers have been getting huge production from Joey Gallo in Beltre’s absence.

Whether Gallo remains on the roster after Beltre returns is yet to be determined. Beltre who recently turned 38 years old is anxious to join the team, and should be back in the Rangers lineup next week.
