Nomar Mazara is this week’s American League Player of the Week award winner. This is the first time Nomar’s won the award. Despite the Texas Rangers’ slow start, he’s been playing very good baseball. They’ve played only six games and Nomar’s already shining bright. No doubt, he’s one of the most exciting players in baseball right now.

Mazara, 21, is already a two-time American League Rookie of the Month. This award just adds another accolade to an amazing career that is only just getting started. No doubt, the Texas Rangers are proud to have him.

At the moment, Mazara is leading the batting lineup with ten hits, nine RBIs, an on-base-percentage of .469 and a batting average of .417. So far he’s blasted two homers, including a grand slam. So far so good. In any case, he needs to keep it up.

Mazara made his debut exactly a year ago yesterday when Shin-Soo Choo went down with another injury. At first, it was thought Mazara’s appearance on the main roster would be brief. However, Rangers manager Jeff Banister never sent him back down to the minors.

Keeping him on the main roster turned out to be the right decision. He went on to appear in 145 games, registering 137 hits, earning 64 RBIs, blasting 20 homers, and batting .266. As mentioned earlier, he won two American League Player of the Month awards. To be honest, nobody saw this coming.

Mazara is currently one of the youngest and brightest starts in the Texas Rangers organization. Both he and Rougned Odor have bright careers ahead of them. Even better, they’re both not in their primes yet. In other words, this is just the beginning.

Tonight, the Rangers start a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. If they can win this series, then they’ll be heading in the right direction. The longer their series-winning streak, the more momentum the ball club has. That’s the clearest path to their third straight American League West title.
