Why the Texas Rangers Should Have A Fire Sale in July
By Andrew Webb

The Rangers are creeping closer and closer to the cellar in the American League West every day. After back to back division championships it could be time for Texas to be big-time sellers at the trade deadline.
The only players that should be untouchable for the Texas Rangers are Adrian Beltre and Elvis Andrus. If they show a wiliness to leave or someone overpays should be the only reason to consider moving them.
Everyone else should be on the trade block including outfielder Nomar Mazara and Rougned Odor. The Rangers could sell high on Mazara because of his youth, but likely want to keep him for the future.
The contract extension is going to kill any value Odor has currently. No team is going to want to commit to that salary for a player that is actually getting worse. If the Rangers can find a buyer then that’s fantastic news for them.
The players that need to go include Yu Darvish, Jonathan Lucroy, Carlos Gomez, Andrew Cashner, and Mike Napoli. All these players are one-year veterans that Texas wasn’t going to be able to re-sign anyway.

Both Darvish and Lucroy will likely get the Rangers back a top 50 prospect and three or four more players each. By the end of the season, Texas could be looking at having one of the best farm systems in the MLB.
It’s hard for fans to wave the white flag and give up, but that is the best strategy here. These potential trades could give the Rangers a future much like the Houston Astros have now. It’s time for the Rangers to be sellers at the trade deadline.
