Texas Rangers: Carlos Gomez Returns As Team Beats Seattle

The Texas Rangers top the Seattle Mariners 10-4, once again becoming a .500 team. With Houston losing, Texas is now 11 games behind for first place. The Rangers are 5-1 in their last six games and they’re drawing near Houston. If they want a chance to take first, they must continue to win, as well as hope Houston continues to fall short.
A great night for the Texas Rangers. Seattle quickly took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, however, in the third, Texas jumped to a 5-1 lead, making 7-1 in the fourth. In the sixth, Seattle made it 7-2, only for Texas to make 10-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Seattle would go one to add two more runs, but not enough to spark a comeback. A respectable win for the Rangers.
Making his first start since April 2016, Tyson Ross took the mound. He pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two hits, two runs, and striking out five batters, earning the victory. This is his first victory since August 31st, 2015, which was ironically against Texas. Ross had been recovering from surgery to correct thoracic outlet syndrome. Seems like he made terrific progress during his rehab.

Dario Alvarez relieved Ross, pitching 0.1 innings, allowing no hits, no runs, and striking out no batters. Jose Leclerc then came in, pitching 1.0 innings, allowing three hits, two runs, and striking out three batters. Alex Claudio pitched the last two innings, allowing two hits, no runs, and striking out no batters.
Great pitching overall. They forced Seattle to leave five players on base. Pitching’s ERA of 4.24 places them 15th in the league.
Offense finished 13-for-36, striking six times. Finally, their 19-game streak of striking eight times or more has ended. The record is 28, which is held by Houston. However, at 19 games, Texas holds the second longest streak of eight or more strikeouts in consecutive games in the last 100 years.
Carlos Gomez made his return, going 2-for-4, striking twice, but he blasted a three-run homer. So his return was special. Everyone in the lineup had a hit, including four who had multiple hits. Elvis Andrus broke a two-game hit-less streak, going 2-for-5. Beltre also broke a two-game hit-less streak. Jonathan Lucroy has had two hits in three straight games now. Mike Napoli also made his return, going 1-for-4. A good night for Texas, especially the low number of strikeouts. In any case, the offense must continue to play well and keep the strikeouts low.
Martin Perez steps on the mound for Game 2. He takes on former Ranger Yovani Gallardo.
