Texas Rangers: Does This Team Have A Shot At The Postseason?
By Andrew Webb

Don’t count out the Texas Rangers just yet as a late surge could land them in the postseason. After an epic win over the Astros on Friday the Rangers are showing life again. Only a couple of games out of the Wild Card does this team still have a chance at the postseason?
It’s been a roller coaster of a season for the Texas Rangers, but could end on a high note. After the win on Friday, the Rangers are 55-59 and three games out of the American League Wild Card. Still a month and a half of baseball left, could this team still make the postseason?
At the trade deadline the Rangers were sellers moving ace Yu Darvish, reliever Jeremy Jeffress, and catcher Jonathan Lucroy. The Rangers have been playing better baseball since the deadline despite trading away some key members of the organization.
This team has found ways to win despite going through two closers and a boatload of pitching injuries. The offense has been streaky and is often times home run or nothing which can be a problem.

The bullpen was by far the biggest problem and has worked itself out. It’s not perfect, but the Rangers like the setup they have in the pen right now. It has done well for them lately, and will hopefully hold up.
One of the biggest factors will be whether or not Cole Hamels can be a leader for this pitching staff. The last few years the Rangers had Darvish to be the “ace” and the guy they can count on. Now that Darvish has been traded, Hamels needs to step up and be that guy in the rotation.
This season Hamels is 7-1 with a 3.31 ERA in 14 starts in nearly 100 innings pitched. He spent part of the season on the disabled list, but has looked great lately. Hamels threw seven scoreless against the Astros on Friday.
In the end of the day this team has the potential to make a postseason run. It’s a talented roster with experienced veteran players. If they can avoid injuries and any major issues this team has a legitimate chance at a Wild Card spot.
