During the off-season the Texas Rangers took a chance on Tyson Ross and signed him to a one-year deal. The former All-Star has been horrendous this season, and it could be time for the organization to cut their losses.

Tuesday’s nightmare outing might be the last for Tyson Ross in a Texas Rangers uniform. He lasted just 3 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits and four walks on 98 pitches.

This season Ross is 3-3 with a 7.04 ERA in 10 starts with Texas. Ross has only completed six innings in one of his 10 starts this season. He’s walked 35 batters in 46 innings and his 7.04 ERA is a career high for a season in which Ross has made at least 10 starts.

The Rangers took a gamble on Ross in free agency signing him to a one-year $6 million deal. He made just one start with the Padres last season, and has seen plenty of time on the disabled list in 2017.

The fact of the matter is that Ross isn’t getting any better. The Rangers are in the middle of a playoff race and they can’t afford to keep a guy like Ross. His inability to eat up innings is depleting the Rangers bullpen.

On Tuesday the Rangers used four relievers to close out the game. The Rangers will now have a tired bullpen for the final two games of this series. It’s hard to imagine Texas sticking with Ross in the rotation after Tuesday’s horrendous outing.

The September call ups are just around the corner which is good for Texas. Having a few extra arms around will be a huge lift for this organization. It might also take some pressure off Ross as the Rangers don’t have too many options at the moment.

At this point in the season every game counts and the Rangers can’t rely on Ross. It’s time to give someone else an opportunity. This gamble didn’t pay off and it has hurt the Rangers enough already.

The Rangers feel that Ross has the stuff to be reliable, but hasn’t shown enough of it yet. They can’t wait forever and it’s obvious Ross is struggling heavily right now. The team should look for someone to replace Ross in the rotation because this experiment needs to end.
