The Texas Rangers’ four-game winning streak came to an abrupt halt last night. However, they’re somehow in second place in the American League West standings. Unfortunately for the Rangers, the A.L. West title now belongs to Houston, but it wasn’t long ago that Texas was in fourth place. That’s where the playing for pride part kicks in.

As a result of this loss, the Rangers have pushed to 3.5 games back in the American League wild-card standings. However, thanks to Angels losing six straight, the Rangers are head and directly behind Minnesota who has the second wild-card spot.

There are only nine games left. Winning their last nine might not be enough to earn a spot, however. The Rangers would have to win nine straight while Minnesota would lose their last games. It’s unlikely to happen. Regardless, the Rangers need to continue to play well. Quitting isn’t an option.

What happened last night is unfortunate. At the same, it’s not surprising since Oakland always gives Texas a hard time no matter how terrible they are. It seems that despite being buried in last place, Oakland is still not going down without a fight. Therefore, the Rangers shouldn’t either.

The Rangers need to forget about what happened last night and focus on tonight’s game. The Rangers need to keep the momentum going. The way to do it is to win tonight’s game and go on to win again tomorrow. The Rangers take on Houston in their next series.
