Ronald Guzman and the Texas Rangers were able to pick up a weird but welcome win Tuesday over the Seattle Mariners.

The Rangers were able to pick up a much needed win Tuesday in Seattle. A back and forth contest that saw some strange moments like forgotten counts and game tying passed balls saw the Rangers move to 23-34 on the season. Here’s our big takeaway from tonight’s game.

Ronald Guzman Is Good. He Could Be Really Good. We Are Lucky.

Ronald Guzman had himself a night on Tuesday reaching base safely in all five of his plate appearances including racking up four base hits. Guzman has continued to grow and seize his opportunity to become a regular starter in this Rangers lineup and has all but locked down first base.

Guzman, or The Condor as he has been dubbed, also drove in three of the Rangers nine runs in the game. Ronald’s defensive ability was quickly made evident when he got the call up but it seemed early on that he might be another big lefty full of power and strikeouts. He’s managed to improve at the plate in his opportunities. His 4-4 day on Tuesday has upped his average to .242 which is a welcome sight for Rangers fans.

As the games go by, it seems like Ronald Guzman is and will be the first baseman for Texas. He’s still young and shows loads of talent. If he can develop into a .250 hitter that also generates the power that he has, he could be a top tier player in the game in the not to distant future.

Recap

The Rangers and Mariners went back and forth Tuesday night. After a Shin-Soo Choo solo homer that saw Texas to an early lead, Seattle answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the first. Texas and Seattle would both add a run by the fourth inning. Three runs in the 6th helped the Rangers take a 5-4 lead before the Mariners tied it in the 8th. Texas was able to put together a big 9th inning scoring four runs thanks in large part to Rougned Odor and Ronald Guzman. That 9-5 lead was plenty as Keone Kela took over in the 9th and shut the door on a weird, but welcomed Rangers win.
