First, Texas Rangers‘ RF Joey Gallo was informed he would be selected to his second All-Star Game on Sunday. Now, he’ll be participating in the 2021 Home Run Derby. What a week!

According to multiple reports, the 27-year-old will be one of the contestants in a stacked Home Run Derby that is sure to excite given the ballpark (Coors Field) and the stars participating.

This will be Gallo’s first career appearance in the Derby, an honor few other players we can think of deserve.

Joey Gallo was made for the Home Run Derby, and now he’ll be representing the Texas Rangers at the event in Colorado

Very long dingers? Yeah, that’s right in Joey’s wheelhouse.

The Home Run Derby plays right into Gallo’s strength as a power-hitter, and lately, he’s looked every bit the part, with 11 homers in his last 15 games.

For the Texas Rangers, Gallo is the first player to represent the team in the Derby since Prince Fielder in 2015, so it’s been a while.

Gallo, like Fielder, is the perfect type of left-handed power hitter that should thrive in the Derby setting. It’s actually pretty surprising that the slugging right fielder hasn’t gotten this opportunity earlier. He did have back-to-back 40 home run seasons in 2017 and 2018, but better late than never is how the saying goes.

And to hit dingers in Colorado? That’s the proverbial icing on the cake, along with getting to do so alongside some of the other brightest stars in the game, including Juan Soto, Shohei Ohtani, Trevor Story, Salvador Perez, Trey Mancini, Pete Alonso and Matt Olson.

That is A LOT of power (literally!). Enough to keep your electric running for a few days, we might even say.

In any event, the Home Run Derby was made for players like Joey Gallo, whose chance at a Derby title will finally arrive next week. The field was star-powered enough already, and Gallo’s inclusion only makes it more epic.

dark. Next. This NL team really wants Joey Gallo

We can’t wait to watch!
