Texas Rangers Prospects: Justin Foscue is on an unreal power surge
At this point, we’ve just come to expect daily home run updates about Texas Rangers No. 5 prospect Justin Foscue.
The team’s first round selection in 2020 out of Mississippi State, Foscue has 15 home runs in 132 at-bats with the Single-A Hickory Crawdads in 2021. So when it rains (baseballs), it pours to the tune of one long ball every 8.8 at bats.
Justin Foscue is looking like an infielder of the future for the Texas Rangers
The 22-year-old second baseman was a relatively polished hitter coming out of college, which led the Rangers to select him 14th overall in 2020. With no minor league season, though, Foscue lost a critical development opportunity by no fault of his own.

But he’s more than made up for lost time in 2021 with this homer binge at Hickory. Foscue is easily one of, if not the hottest prospects in all of Minor League Baseball, and his rapid rise is making many fans and officials within the organization giddy for what could be on the horizon soon.
It feels like a matter of time before the former Bulldog receives a promotion to the loaded AA Frisco RoughRiders, though the Hickory Crawdads are quite a formidable group themselves.
Foscue has a current MLB ETA of 2023 per MLB Pipeline, but it’s more than possible that if he continues to square up pitches like he has this minor league season, that he could receive an invite to spring training in 2022 with the chance to even break camp with the team.
He’s definitely hitting like a man worthy of a promotion and a chance to crack the big leagues sooner than expected. In a rebuild where hitting on young talent is key, the Rangers would surely be happy to promote Foscue ahead of schedule as validation that they made a right decision drafting him.
You’d be hard pressed to find a prospect on a home run tear even comparable to the one Foscue is on right now. And with the Texas Rangers in dire need of those types of impact hitters, we can hardly wait for his arrival.
