3 Rangers who didn't win Silver Sluggers, but probably should have won

Spending all this time talking about the greatest Silver Sluggers in Texas Rangers history has us thinking about who the greatest non-winners are. While the Rangers have the fourth-most Silver Sluggers in MLB history, they don't include some franchise altering names.

The three players below could have been rightfully deserving of the Silver Slugger throughout their career but that's just not how it goes sometimes.

Somehow these 3 Rangers didn't get Silver Sluggers for their lights out season

Michael Young, 20005

One of the best hitters in Texas Rangers history, Michael Young played 14 years in Major League Baseball, including seven seasons hitting over .300 without one single Silver Slugger season.

Young's biggest chances of getting the award was during his '05 season where he led the American League in batting average (.331) and lead all of MLB in hits with 221. Alongside that, he scored 114 runs 40 doubles, 24 home runs and 91 RBIs with an .899 OPS.

He did make the All-Star team that season and finished 11th in AL MVP voting but Miguel Tejada, who hit .304 with 50 doubles, 26 home runs and drove in 98 runs playing in all 162 games for Baltimore won the award among AL shortstops that year.

Ian Kinsler, 2011

Kinsler never was a standout more just a mark of consistency throughout his 14 year big league career. The infielder finished his career one hit shy of 2,000 while racking up 257 homers, 909 RBIs and a career .269 batting average.

He finished with four All-Star selections and two Gold Gloves but the Silver Slugger aluded him. One of his best chances happened to be during the Rangers second-straight World Series appearance in '11.

That year he slashed .255/.355/.477 and became just the third Ranger to join the 30/30 club with 32 homers and 30 stolen bases. Kinsler also added 34 doubles to that mark. Unfortunately, the Yankees Robinson Cano decided to hit .302 with eight more doubles and drove in nearly 40 more runs.

Adolis Garcia, 2023

Perhaps one of the greatest outfield offensive seasons in Rangers' history since the 2010s with Josh Hamilton, Garcia was on his best during the 2023 World Series season.

In his fifth big league season, fourth with Texas, Garcia only hit .245 but smashed 39 homers and drove in 107 runs, 29 doulbes and an .846 OPS in 148 games. All while playing Gold Glove defense in right field and was one of six Rangers to make the All-Star team that season.

The problem was he lost out to in-state right fielder Kyle Tucker who surpassed him in average, OPS and led the American League with 112 RBIs. Both would have been worthy opponents and this was easily Garcia's best shot at winning the award. Just have to tip your hat to King Tuck.
