Among all the talk of who will play what position qnd how the bullpen will be rebuilt, someone will have to draw the short-end of the straw and end up short of the Opening Day 26-man roster.

Here are my guesses on a few Rangers that will not only miss out on the roster but might need to find a new team.

3 Rangers with high chances of getting cut this spring

Ezequiel Duran, INF/OF

Having been wrong about this countless times over the years, it seems that Duran has endless lives with the Rangers. Despite a scorching first half in the 2023 season, the 26-year-old has struggled.

To kick off spring, Duran is batting .222 with 2 RBIs, four walks and two strikeouts in nine at-bats. It’s not horrendous for a short sample size but with the Rangers backlog of position players this year, it could be the eventual end for Duran.

One of four players acquired by Texas in the 2021 trade that sent Joey Gallo to the Yankees, Duran has been given plenty of chances but maybe his luck has expired with new manager Skip Schumaker now in charge.

Cal Quantrill, RHP

Singed by Texas to potentially compete for the fifth rotation spot or a long relief role in the bullpen, Quantrill’s spot relies heavily on his spring numbers.

Not good for him, he’s thrown four innings, allowed 12 hits and surrendered seven earned runs. All while walking two batters to his just one strikeout. This is not a good start but has a chance to bounce back. He will then take off to Puerto Rico to represent Team Canada in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

A once dominant pitcher with Cleveland, the 31-year-old finished the 2025 season 4-12 with a 6.04 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP in 117.2 innings of work. He’s on thin ice and I don’t think he makes it to March 26.

Andrew Velazquez, INF

A former seventh round draft pick by Arizona, Velazquez made his big league debut in 2018 with Tampa Bay and has since played for five different organizations.

The career .189 hitter, he’s never been much of a head turner with only 12 home runs, 49 RBIs and 211 strikeouts. Texas signed him to a minor league deal back in December, but the real reason was solely to provide opportunities at camp and have a backup loaded in case injuries called for his services.

He’s not going to last the entire spring, already off to a 1-for-13 start and better options in Sam Haggerty, Michael Helman and Tyler Wade competing for similar bench spots.
