Trade rumors are swirling around Major League Baseball and like recent seasons, the Texas Rangers are in the middle of them.

While it still remains unclear what direction President of Baseball Operations Chris Young and his team will go with the organization, it doesn't stop potential rumors or predictions from popping up.

Will Texas add to their current roster? Will we see them move on from some mainstays? Or will they act like all is fine and stand pat at the deadline?

MLB insider predicts Rangers add an old face back to the roster

Jomboy's Chris Rose tends to think that not only will the Rangers add to their roster but they will go back and retrieve their first baseman they let go back in December, Nathaniel Lowe.

Lowe was traded to the Nationals during the most recent offseason for left-handed reliever Robert Garcia. All in all, it's been a pretty successful trade for both teams but it seems more so for Texas with Garcia being one of the most reliable arms in the back half of Bochy's bullpen.

The 30-year-old Lowe is currently on a one-year deal with the Nationals and will go through one more year of arbitration elibigility this offseason before becoming a free agent. The Nationals stand at a time where a rebuild isn't quite 100% necessary but they are not title contenders yet. Having received a heavy amount of young talent in recent seasons, they are still a few pieces away from being real threats.

Does inquiring about Lowe make sense for the Rangers?

For Washington it makes sense. I don't think they make as big of a jump in wins from this season to next season that will get them into the postseason and with Lowe being a free agent at the end of the 2026 it would be hard to envision the Nationals re-signing him so why not get what you can for the first baseman.

As for Texas they need to evaluate whether he is worth it and to do so they need to remove nostalgia. In 96 games this season, Lowe has 14 home runs, 61 RBIs, 14 doubles and a .685 OPS. While those aren't league-leading numbers they would put him among the top on Texas's stat leaders.

However, Lowe has not only declined in several advanced metrics he's also seen a massive dip in fielding value which was something that at least was giving him some value during last season's tough offensive year.

The Rangers overall options at first base are Jake Burger (currently on IL), newly-signed Rowdy Tellez, Josh Smith, Ezequiel Duran and a handful of minor league options. An upgrad would certainly be welcomed but if they were going to go externally it might make more sense for Texas to go after a better, longer controlled option.
