With the San Francisco Giants firing Bob Melvin on Monday morning, should Texas Rangers fans brace themselves for a managerial opening of their own?

Melvin was given the boot after two less-than-successful seasons in the Bay Area, while for now, Bochy is still a member of the Rangers organization. For the last week or so, both he and POBO Chris Young have said that while he could be a free agent, they'll discuss his status with the team when the season is over. It's now officially over.

That Bochy would return for a fourth season with the Texas Rangers has looked unlikely for a while now. His continued comments that he has no answers for why his third team underachieved in so many areas are just one reason. Now, there's a new one. Should he be interested in managing in 2026?

Bob Melvin firing offers interesting option for Bruce Bochy, Texas Rangers

While Bochy broke into the Majors as a manager with the San Diego Padres, his longest tenure was with the Giants. Over a 13-year stint, he posted a 1052-1054 record. While that overall record might not look all that impressive, he also won three World Series titles in 2010, 2012, and 2014.

After a 79-85 season in 2019, which was his final one in San Francisco, it looked like Bochy's career might be over. That was until he landed with the Rangers and immediately won the club's first-ever World Series title.

Despite following that up with two straight seasons of missing the playoffs, the Giants might still see a manager who can lead them back to the playoffs. At the very least, Bruce Bochy could use the NL opening as leverage against the Texas Rangers, who in turn could decide to call his bluff. Watch this space.
