During the offseason, the Texas Rangers parted ways with three players who played huge roles in the team's first World Series championship. The Rangers traded second baseman Marcus Semien to the New York Mets in exchange for outfielder Brandon Nimmo, and non-tendered outfielder Adolis García and catcher Jonah Heim. García signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, and Heim signed a one-year, $1.25 million deal with the Atlanta Braves.
Checking in on 3 notable former Rangers with new clubs in spring training
Marcus Semien - New York Mets
Semien has looked sharp with his new team this spring. In six games, the second baseman has gone 4-for-14 at the plate with one homer, one double, one walk and two runs.
Adolis García - Philadelphia Phillies
García has gotten off to a slow start with the Phillies this spring, collecting three singles, one double and a walk in 16 at-bats, leading to a poor .607 OPS. However, the former Ranger hit all three of his singles over his last seven at-bats, suggesting the outfielder has found a groove at the plate.
Jonah Heim - Atlanta Braves
Like García, Heim has struggled with his new team thus far in spring training. The starting catcher on the 2023 World Series team has just three hits (one double & two singles) with one walk and one RBI in 16 at-bats across five games.
It's important to take spring training performances with a grain of salt, especially with a couple of weeks remaining before the regular season begins. For all we know, Semien could go on to have a horrific season at the plate, and García and Heim could be All-Stars. Still, it's fun to see how these former Rangers are doing with their new clubs this spring, as all three hold a special spot in Rangers fans' hearts.
