Checking in on 4 memorable former Texas Rangers players with their new clubs

While Texas Rangers fans are mostly focused on the postseason race at the moment, it's always fun to check in on former fan favorites. As Texas fights for a playoff spot, let's take a look at several memorable former Rangers players with their new teams.

Looking at four former Texas Rangers fan favorites with their new teams

1B Nathaniel Lowe - Cleveland Guardians

The Rangers cut ties with Lowe after the 2024 season by trading him to the Washington Nationals. He struggled with Washington, posting a .665 OPS over 119 games before being designated for assignment and released. The Boston Red Sox signed him for the rest of the 2025 season, and he posted a strong .790 OPS over 34 games with the club.

After being non-tendered by Boston in the offseason, Lowe signed a minor-league contract with the Cincinnati Reds. He made the Reds' Opening Day roster after a strong spring training. The Reds traded Lowe to the Guardians on Aug. 3.

Lowe performed well for the Reds, slashing .266/.341/.480, but has hit just .226/.262/.376 with the Guardians so far.

C Jonah Heim - Athletics

Heim signed a deal with the Atlanta Braves in February after being non-tendered by the Rangers. The Braves were dealing with multiple catching injuries at the time.

The Braves designated Heim for assignment in early May after he hit .231/.311/.410 over 12 games with the club. The Braves then traded the former Rangers catcher to the Athletics. He has slashed .212/.267/.392 with 12 home runs over 79 games with the Athletics this year.

2B Marcus Semien - New York Mets

Texas traded Semien to the Mets for outfielder Brandon Nimmo in the offseason. It's safe to say the deal has worked out for the Rangers so far, as Semien has been worth -0.1 fWAR this year while Nimmo has posted 2.2 fWAR.

Semien, who missed about a month of the season with a left hip flexor strain, has hit just .216/.281/.345 over 121 games this year. His defensive numbers have also dropped substantially; Semien has posted -1 Defensive Runs Saved and -6 Outs Above Average over 1,043 2/3 innings at second base this season. Last year, he recorded +5 DRS and +6 OAA across 1,108 1/3 innings.

OF Adolis García - Philadelphia Phillies

The Rangers non-tendered García in the offseason, allowing him to sign a contract with the Phillies. He hit just .195/.270/.329 over 67 games with Philadelphia before landing on the injured list in June with a season-ending right latissimus dorsi tear.
