It's time to demote this Rangers outfielder in hopes he gets back on track

Are the answers to Adolis Garcia's struggles residing in Round Rock? Not sure. But the team should send him there to find out.

The Texas Rangers are stuck between a rock and a hard place with Adolis Garcia as they naviagte his struggles offensively with the value he gives in the outfield and the energy he brings to a clubhouse. But ever since that World Series two years ago, all of those factors haven't been as present.

This is what leads to the potential of him losing his spot, getting released or traded. But before all of that happens, the Rangers need to send him to Triple-A Round Rock as a last ditch effort to see if he can get back on the right track.

In 191 at-bats, Garcia is slashing .215/.263/.382 with seven homers, 27 runs batted in, 11 doubles, .645 OPS but has also struck out 54 times compared to only 11 walks. He still has one minor league option remaining on his contract and if there's ever a time to use it, it's right now.

Sending Adolis Garcia to Triple-A is worth it in multiple ways

1. A stint in Triple-A could revive Garcia's confidence

Just like Jake Burger earlier this year, Garcia could use his option to get his mind right and really make changes to his swing, approach at the plate or even just allow him to see the bat make good contact with the ball. Most importantly, he needs to get his confidence back.

What made Garcia so good two years ago was his play but also the swag and energy he brought to the team. He will forever be hated in Houston for what he did to the Astros in the 2023 ALCS and part of that is because his personality and swagger he brought alongside his results.

But since then we haven't seen his confidence take over because the offense isn't there. Garcia is one of those guys that when he's performing, his confidence is high and then his play is elevated that much more.

When Burger was optioned to Round Rock, he was hitting .190 in 100 at-bats. Once he returned 10 days later, he became the team's best player and in his last 15 games has a .275 average with four homers and nine RBI's.

It's true that others might see a demotion as a negative but if you embrace it like Burger did, go down there and work to get better. It could turn into a positive real fast.

2. His success at Triple-A could increase his trade value

Why would the Rangers then proceed to trade Garcia if he succeeded in the minor leagues? Realistically, they wouldn't. He's such a fixture in the organization that they'd want to take that progress and benefit from it back in Alrington.

However, there is a scenario where Evan Carter comes back and Alejandro Osuna starts geling in this lineup to the point where everyone hits their stride at exactly the right time. Given Garcia's age, length remaining on his contract and money, Texas might decide it's time to move on.

If they demote him and he is successful in Round Rock, more teams might see that as a positive step that he's getting better and his potential is still there. In turn that raises the return that the Rangers might get for the outfielder. If he doesn't turn the corner his value obviously falls to a lesser extent as it might mean he's just beyond repair.

Either way this is a last ditch effort to see if Garcia can turn it around. If he can't trade him or release him. If he can turn himself around then you have a good contributor or valuable trade asset.

Sometimes players need a change of scenery, whether that is being sent to the minors or get traded elsewhere. I see this move as a scenario for Garcia to become a better player and if that is with the Rangers or another team, that move will be decided by Chris Young and the rest of the front office.
