During the series opener of the second silver boot series, the Texas Rangers played some of the ugliest games of baseball that Major League Baseball has seen this year and it should honestly signal the end for general manager Chris Young.

Getting no-hit by three pitchers, they lost 10-0 against the Houston Astros. On top of the horrible showing by the offense, starting pitcher Kumar Rocker didn't fare much better, letting four runs by through five innings.

Unfortunately, it also looked like a broken record, the offense has been struggling and it seems at least one member of the starting rotation is off their game at any given moment. In all honestly, Skip Schumaker needs more to work with and Young is at risk of losing his job if he doesn't do something.

Rangers GM Chris Young's chair should be in flames

Schumaker at this point has done everything possible to get the offense goin and he just hasn't been able to produce with the players he has available to him. That includes the minor league call-ups he's made. It's honestly a miracle that the Rangers are still within reach of the division title, let alone not even in last place in the American League West.

Young should be sweating bullets right now. He and everyone else that pays attention to baseball know that he's on the chopping block. Coming into a roster that was already built, the Rangers won the World Series in Young's first year on the job. However, since then, the situation in Arlinton has only gotten worse. Painfully, so. He's let a number of members of the 2023 team walk, although for some it was their own doing.

However you look at it, Young has been the main hand in the struggles of the team over the past few years. Trading players for a bag of chips and then seeing the players he traded perform exceptionally well (Liam Hicks), trades in general have been arguably his biggest bugaboo. Young can't seem to get the other side of trades right either, often giving up a lot for not enough. This past offseason's trade for MacKenzie Gore is a prime example of that.

At this point, his 2024 extension should be thrown to the wayside. If the team doesn't pick things up soon, things are going to have to change and the first person to go will have to be him. We won the World Series and then have done absolutely nothing since. It's clear that at this point Young struggles to make the decisions that a GM needs to make.
