Eugenio Suarez trade turns the heat up to 11 for the Rangers to make a splash

The Texas Rangers still have about 19 hours to make a deal that can show they're serious about a Wild Card run. However, after the Los Angeles Angels made a deal for two relievers and then the Seattle Mariners made a deal for third baseman Eugenio Suarez with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

In the process, the Mariners picked up the best bat on the trade market. And they did it after also bolstering their offense earlier in the week by getting first baseman Josh Naylor.

Texas Rangers watch rivals load up—and the clock is about to run out

The Texas Rangers are expected to be very aggressive at the deadline. However, so far, there's been nary a peep. The good news is that when the Mariners made their moves, they were for players that Texas has no genuine interest in getting.

Chris Young and Bruce Bochy are almost certainly more interested in getting some relief pitchers. If everything goes right, they'd also pick up an actual closer. While the team wouldn't mind adding a bat, it's not anywhere near the top of the club's wish list. Considering the Rangers are operating a bit of a budget limit, the aggressiveness might just be looking to get the best reliever or relievers they can.

Granted, one of the best closers, Ryan Helsley, has also already been dealt before the MLB Trade Deadline arrives.

While the Texas Rangers were never really players in the Eugenio Suarez sweepstakes, the problem is that the Mariners acquired a hitter who hit 36 home runs before the deadline. That bat, paired with catcher Cal Raleigh, is giving the team a big offensive boost. That boost comes just a few days before the Mariners take on the Rangers, head-to-head.
