The Rangers selected Josh Jung with the 8th pick of the third round in the 2019 MLB Draft after a tremendous three-year run at Texas Tech. After just a brief two-year stint in the minors, he was called up to the big leagues at 21-year-old.

When healthy, he has been the everyday third baseman for the Rangers since their 2023 World Series championship season.

As a rookie in 2023, he showed promise, hitting .266 with 23 home runs and 70 RBIs, finishing fourth in the American League Rookie of the Year race. Unfortunately, Jung spent majority of the 2024 season on the injured list with a variety of ailments, including a broken hand. This year, we have gotten a complete and unfettered look at Jung, and the results have been underwhelming.

Josh Jung is striking out at an alarming rate, and not showing any plate discipline

Ranger fans have been patient with Jung, seeing flashes in the truncated beginning to his injury-plagued career. Well, that patience has officially worn out. Fans want to see Jung benched - yesterday.

Since June 13, Jung is hitting just .151 (8-53) with just two extra-base hits. He has also fanned 15 times during that span.

Jung's lack of discipline at the plate was never more evident than over the three-game series against Seattle this past weekend., swinging at balls everywhere and taking very hittable strikes.

He's either not seeing the ball at all or is unable to lay off pitches out of the zone. In particular, it is the fastballs up in the zone that have him swinging and missing badly.

Bruce Bochy hasn't shown any inclination to bench Jung, and it's frustrating

Even as the rumblings surrounding Jung's anemic offensive performance continues to swell, Rangers' manager Bruce Bochy hasn't shown that he is ready or willing to let the 27-year-old ride the pine.

It doesn't seem like a poor idea to give Jung a rest. Bochy made a similar move with Adolis Garcia getting benched for a three-game series against St. Louis to end May. It translated into a scorching few weeks the the right fielder.

With options like Josh Smith and the newly-recalled Justin Foscue at his disposal, the soon-to-be Hall of Fame skipper seems content to let Jung figure it out on the fly, and Ranger fans have had enough of watching Jung kill innings with strikeouts.
