It almost feels as if the Texas Rangers' big right-hander from Georgia has turned a corner and is figuring out how to navigate an opposing lineup several times through.

It's certainly not time to move him up in the rotation, but it definitely could alter the Rangers' trade deadline outlook. With Rocker pitching like this, they may not need to pursue back-end rotation help and can focus on other areas of need.

Rocker has won his last two starts. In them, he has gone 12.2 innings and allowed just 5 hits and 2 earned runs. He has also fanned 13 batters as he is hitting his spots with his three best pitches. Rocker has been setting up his nasty slider and off-speed pitches with a pinpoint four-seamer that is hitting 97 mph.

The most impressive aspect of Rocker's emergence over the last two weeks is how he is recognizing the patterns of opposing batters and coming up with the right pitch at the right time in the count. He is also getting ahead of batters and staying down in the zone with his strikeout pitches. Maybe most importantly, he is finishing at-bats with precision and efficiency, which allows him to go deeper into games with lower pitch counts.

Yes, it's only two starts, but what Rocker is doing could be changing the way Chris Young and company view their most pressing trade deadline needs. If they can get this version of Rocker consistently, they can focus more on right-handed relief help and another catcher for the stretch run.

Meanwhile, Joc Pederson's scorching-hot bat is sparking this offense from the leadoff spot. The Rangers' lineup is producing at a rate that we haven't seen since 2023, and Pederson, along with guys like Wyatt Langford, Jake Burger, and Ezequiel Duran, is a big part of it. His early dingers are setting the tone for the entire game.

After his two-home-run explosion in the 7-3 win over the Mariners on Monday, Rangers beat writer Evan Grant found Pederson in the clubhouse and asked him why the Rangers should add at the deadline, and Pederson replied, "We're in first place; what more needs to be said? Now, it's on to Tampa Bay to play a good Rays team that thrives at home and then to Houston to face a surprising Astros team that just won't go away. Texas hasn't quite announced that it is all-in on buying, but taking care of business for the rest of this week should have them sitting pretty, and Rocker's surge may have already crossed one key need off the list
