Philadelphia Phillies, former Texas Rangers utilityman Dylan Moore agree to minor league deal

The Phillies have signed former Rangers utilityman Dylan Moore to a minor league deal, according to The Athletic's Will Sammon. The ex-Ranger will be a non-roster invitee in MLB camp with Philadelphia.

After he spent parts of seven seasons (2019-25) with the Seattle Mariners, posting 7.2 bWAR and a .206/.310/.383 (97 OPS+) slash line with 63 homers and 198 RBI in 689 games, Moore was designated for assignment by Seattle on August 23, 2025. The Mariners released the utilityman two days later and he signed a minor league deal with the Rangers. After he played in just one game with Triple-A Round Rock, the Rangers selected his contract on August 29.

Although the Rangers missed the playoffs with an 81-81 win-loss record, primarily due to the team's struggling offense, Moore, 33, helped improve the offense by slashing .259/.300/.481 (126 OPS+) with two homers, six RBI and two stolen bases in 30 plate appearances across 18 games with Texas.

The Rangers had a .607 OPS during the month of September. It sucked for Rangers fans to see that, as the lineup was actually decent from June through August (.735 OPS), but it was at least nice to see Moore, who filled in when Corey Seager needed an appendectomy, perform well upon joining the team.

While 2025 marked the first season Moore, a right-handed hitter, appeared in the big leagues for the Rangers, it wasn't his first time being part of the organization. Texas selected the utilityman from the University of Central Florida in the seventh round of the 2015 MLB Draft. The Rangers traded him to the Atlanta Braves for cash in late August 2016, and he spent time in the Milwaukee Brewers' system before joining the Mariners in the 2018-19 offseason.

What role will Dylan Moore play for the Phillies?

Moore, who has experience at every position except catcher, obviously won't be an everyday starter for the Phillies. He may not even start the season on the team's 26-man roster. However, he has a good chance to make the team if he performs well during spring training. His solid performance with the Rangers likely helps his odds of making the team as well.

It's safe to assume that Edmundo Soso will be Philadelphia's top utility infielder. Otto Kemp will likely serve in a utility role as well. Players who will compete with Moore for a roster spot include Pedro León, Bryan De La Cruz and Johan Rojas.
