If there was one thing the Bruce Bochy-era in Texas was consistent with, it was defense. It is rare to see such a high level of defense for an extended period of time but that was what he emphasized during his time here.
Following the conclusion of the 2025 season, the main takeaway with the Texas Rangers was that the defense was unbelievable. No matter who ran out there it seemed like the ball never got past them or fell in front of them.
Part of having such a low ERA or runs scored against the Rangers' pitching staff was how good the defense was. This was due in part to their five AL Gold Glove finalists: Adolis Garcia, Jacob deGrom, Corey Seager, Wyatt Langford and Marcus Semien.

Corey Seager (shortstop)

Adolis García (rightfield)
Texas' 5 finalists are 3rd-most in MLB behind Chicago-NL (6) and Toronto (6).
Rangers continue dominance in Gold Glove rankings
This group does have usual suspects in Garcia, Seager and Semien but the other two are out of the ordinary. Entering the big leagues, Langford was thought of as a below-average defender but has been anything but while deGrom had a career season defensively with no errors.
The Rangers have had eight finalists and three Gold Glove winners since the new era started in 2022. Seeing five make the list this year is not a surprise by anyone who watched the team in 2025 and every player on the list more than earned their recognition
Turning players who haven't been highly regarded for their defense, such as Corey Seager and getting well above-average defensive play has been a trend. Jonah Heim, Nathaniel Lowe and Adolis Garcia all won in 2023 while being viewed as leaning toward offense first.
Rangers were among best MLB fielding team in 2025
This is a major team achievement for the Rangers. The pride of this team relied upon the elite pitching combined with the other worldly defense made other offenses have nightmares of coming to Arlington.
All-around the diamond from the five Gold Glove finalists to catcher Kyle Higashioka, third baseman Josh Jung and utility man Josh Smith, the Rangers had the best fielding percentage and fewest errors in baseball.
Blending that level of defensive play in all nine positions led to a free and open style of play. It also helps the pitchers feel comfortable when they know every defender to the left and right of them is capable of making any play.
It is yet to be seen what Schumaker will establish as the defensive identity but if the front office maintains the talent on roster it will undoubtedly be good. Regardless, we can look back on how privileged fans were to watch such a high level of defense this season and in year's pasts.
