It wasn't a shock that Sebastian Walcott ended up as one of Baseball America's Top 100 Prospects (subscription required) entering the 2026 season but no one saw right-hander Caden Scarborough joining his fellow Texas Rangers farmhand in the process.

Scarborough, 20, snuck into the list at No. 65 after a dominating 2025 season that saw the Florida native join the end of the season conversations as the future of the rotation.

Texas even sees that potential after he outlasted the MacKenzie Gore trade on Thursday, that sent five other organizational prospects to Washington in return for the 27-year-old southpaw.

Scarborough's rise into Top 100 is welcoming to Rangers' depleted farm system

Earlier this week, USA Today ranked the Rangers as just the 25th farm system in the league (out of 30) but how quickly that changes when an organization deals five prospects, including their second overall prospect.

Needless to say, the farm system is less than ideal for the Rangers. Through all of it though, they avoided trading Walcott and managed to keep Scarborough.

A sixth-round pick out of high school in 2023, Scarborough took off last year during stints with both Low-A and High-A. All in all, he appeared in 22 games and despite the 2-5 record, he finished with a 2.45 ERA, 114 strikeouts, 21 walks and a 0.87 WHIP in 88 innings of work.

Outside of Walcott and Scarborough, Texas's top 10 prospects include four pitchers, three infielders and a catcher. While a lot of those names could have positive upsides, they aren't the flashiest names in baseball. That will likely be showcased by MLB Pipeline's prospect rankings, expected to be released prior to the season.
