The Texas Rangers don't have the strongest farm system in Major League Baseball anymore and for the last few years the focus has mostly been on Sebastian Walcott, but right-hander Caden Scarborough is maxing out the excitement on the pitching side.
Scarborough, 20, was the team's sixth round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, one of the rare high school prospects that Texas has been taking a flyer on in the Chris Young era. That is paying off for Texas after a 2025 season that saw drastic improvement from year one.
Scarborough's improvment primes him for breakout 2026 season
Throughout two levels of the minors in 2025 Scarborough's 22 games ended with a 2-5 record, 2.45 ERA, 114 strikeouts, 21 walks and a 0.87 WHIP in 88 innings of work.
It was a season that Texas and Caden needed to see and set a level of expectations as he rises through the Rangers' minor league system. Not only is he the team's No. 8 prospect but he's seen as one of the likely candidates to have a breakout performance next year.

According to MLB Pipeline's scouting report of the young righty, Scarborough's "effortless delivery creates a flat approach angle and elite extension." With a four-seamer that can touch 96, a curveball, slider and changeup.
Scarborough will highlight Rangers' rotation for years to come
It is still early in his career but the way his career is progressing early on has to be a positive sign for the organization.
For Texas, there is no shortage of pitching within the farm system. Besides the likes of Jack Leiter, Kumar Rocker and Cody Bradford making waves in the majors, six of the team's top 10 prospects are all pitchers.
While a couple of those six arms have been sidelined over the last season or two, Texas has seen positive momentum coming from Scarborough, as well as, right-hander David Davalillo after a breakout season of his own.
The hope for the Rangers has to be for Scarborough, Davalillo, Leiter and Rocker to among the featured power arms of the team's rotation for years to come.
