Rangers Ezequiel Duran finally gets national recognition amid extended hot streak

If you've been a Texas Rangers fan for more than 30 minutes, you are well aware that the team doesn't get a whole lot of national media attention - even when they're good. So as they meander their way through 2026 at or around the .500 mark in a really bad AL West, the team - and its players - are getting even less of the spotlight.

There is one Ranger, however, who is finally being recognized nationwide for his stellar play and unique Swiss Army knife skill set. Ezequiel Duran, or "The Solution" as he is now known around the clubhouse, was fighting for a roster spot during spring training in March. Now, he may very well be the team's best all-around weapon, and people outside of North Texas are starting to take notice.

Duran knew before the season even started that he was on thin ice with the Rangers organization. He was coming off two very bad seasons and was somehow holding onto a roster spot because of his unique versatility and ability to play every position on the field.

The jack-of-all-trades has turned over a new leaf in 2026. He leads the Rangers with a bWAR of 3.8 while slashing .272/.331/.443. His 14 homers tie his career best from 2023, and he has already set new career highs in hits (119), doubles (25), and RBIs (70).

Right now, he is on a tear, and Just Baseball gave him a shout-out on X (Twitter) featuring his accomplishments since July 1. In 46 games, he has slashed .280/.340/.506 with 8 homers, 26 RBIs, a 136 wRC+, and a 2.0 fWAR, which is the best mark in the entire American League for infielders during those two months.

It's high time Duran got his flowers from a national media outlet. He has been the one constant in a season littered with injuries. Skip Schumaker is such a fan of and thankful for Duran that he regularly wears a T-shirt with "The Solution" printed on it during interviews. He knows the fifth-year player out of the Dominican Republic is the glue and grit that has kept this team in the playoff hunt all season long. He has put himself in a position to earn both a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger for Utility. That has never been done since the 2022 inception of the awards.

The Rangers will need Duran's bat to stay hot and hope for some better pitching as they take on the Milwaukee Brewers, who boast the best record in the NL at 84-51. They have fallen two games behind the Astros for the top spot in the West and have dropped two games behind the Guardians for the final wild-card spot.

It's great to see Duran get some much deserved praise, but there is still much work to be done if he wants to continue swinging the bat into late September and October. He's also going to need his teammates to match his level of play if the Rangers are going to get where they want to go.
