Danny Jansen is back from almost three months on the IL, and he, along with Elias Diaz, is not getting the job done at the plate for the Texas Rangers. Neither is expected to be an offensive stalwart in this lineup, but they have been particularly ineffective recently.
The good news is that the Rangers made a great trade deadline deal for a guy who is both raking at Triple-A Round Rock and a proven quality major league hitter. Logan O'Hoppe, who came to Arlington along with right-handed reliever Chase Silseth from the Angels, is ready to resume his role as a big-league catcher who may have needed a little time in the minors to reset before donning a Rangers uniform.
Logan O'Hoppe can provide a much-needed and immediate infusion of offense to the Rangers' lineup
Elias Diaz is 7-for-42 (.167) in August, with one homer and two RBIs. Danny Jansen is still shaking off the rust, but is hitless in seven at-bats since returning, lowering his average from .172 to .163. No one is suggesting that Diaz and Jansen be kicked to the curb because they are doing just as poorly as the rest of the Rangers hitters not named Corey Seager or Ezequiel Duran. Still, O'Hoppe is a proven commodity who looks ready to be part of a platoon immediately.
In 65 at-bats at Round Rock, O'Hoppe is slashing .292/.387/.523. He has mashed 2 home runs to go with 9 doubles. The 26-year-old was having a down year for the Halos in 2026, hitting .208, but he has shown that he can be an everyday catcher in the past.

As an everyday backstop in 2024, O'Hoppe launched 20 jacks and knocked in 56 runs over 479 at-bats. The year before that, he burst onto the scene as a rookie with an 112 OPS+. 2025 and the first half of 2026 saw a dip in his performance, but the track record is there.
The Angels have been really bad for a long time, and sometimes a guy needs a change of scenery and a vote of confidence from a new club that he is part of their future. O'Hoppe is still a very young player, and being traded to a team in the middle of a playoff push could be the jolt he needs. The Rangers planned on O'Hoppe being in Arlington full-time when they traded for him, but didn't want to rush the process.
It feels like the right time to give him his shot and option Diaz, who may be the odd man out when Kyle Higashioka comes back in about two weeks. Don't be surprised to see Chris Young and the personnel department make a move very soon.
