Its now been about 48 hours since the Texas Rangers made the decision to not tender a contract to four of their players and release them into free agency.
While those moves might have been necessary to advance the team further after two consecutive disappointing seasons, it is not easy for Rangers' fans to see Adolis Garcia, Jonah Heim and Josh Sborz depart the organization this closely removed the 2023 World Series.
But it's happened and the team needs to move forward. While that might sound easy when looking at Garcia and Heim's declining numbers since 2024, Texas also lost two players at least 123 of the team's 162 games this season.
How do the Rangers replace Jonah Heim's consistency behind the dish?
When consistency is mentioned, I am talking about his ability to play game-after-game since he was traded to Texas prior to the 2021 season. In those five seasons, Heim played in 612 of the Rangers' games with 542 of those games behind the dish.
Heim's departure leaves the Rangers with Kyle Higashioka as their number one option. While that might be what fans are wanting after Higgy seem to be a more consistent player in 2025, it still doesn't solve the team's issues.
Higashioka, 35, is entering his 10th season in Major League Baseball but has platooned his entire career never playing over 100 games in a season. His closest was actually the 94 games he played in 2025 for Texas.
The best option for the Rangers is former Houston Astro backstop, Victor Caratini. The 32-year-old switch hitter slashed .259/.324/.404 with 12 homers, 46 RBIs and a .728 OPS in 114 games of work. Caratini is less likely to demand a large price tag compared to the top catcher on the market in J.T. Realmuto.
Rangers need to replace power and Gold Glove defense
Adolis Garcia has been synonymous with the Texas Rangers on their return to the top of the league and the franchise's first World Series title.
In six years with Texas, the 32-year-old hit .237 with 141 homers, 458 RBIs, 144 doubles and a 106 OPS+. That translated to a 2023 All-Star selection, Gold Glove and a 2023 ALCS MVP. Despite the decline in production over the last two seasons, Garcia still led the team in home runs and RBIs in 2025 and was named an AL RF Gold Glove finalist.
How do the Rangers find a player or players to replace that level of production and impact? The safe answer Texas will hope to pursue is a breakout for 23-year-old Alejandro Osuna who made his big league debut in 2025, appearing in 63 games for Texas and hitting .212 with two homers and 15 RBIs.

Within the organization, the Rangers could also go with Abilemec Ortiz, Michael Helman, Sam Haggerty or Cody Freeman.
Beyond that, on the free agent market, the Rangers might consider replacing Garcia in right field with former Giant and Royal Mike Yastrzemski, Make Kepler, Starling Marte or Lane Thomas.
