The Texas Rangers are just about at the point of no return this season and with that comes thinking outside of the box to see if anything positive will happen. Maybe that something positive for Texas is Cody Freeman.
Freeman, 24, experienced the big leagues for a brief stint in mid-July when the Rangers placed first baseman Jake Burger on the IL before the All-Star Break with a quad injury. In 7 at-bats with the big club, he went 2-for-7 and recorded his first RBI on July 21 against the Athletics.
However, the infielder got optioned back to Triple-A Round Rock a few days later. Since then, he's been an absolute stud for the Express, including a three homer game the first game he returned to the club and his most recent outing on Sunday where he went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three extra-base hits.
Will Cody Freeman reunite with the Rangers again in 2025?
The Texas Rangers offense has been sputtering all season long and it seems after an electric start to the second half of the season, they have returned to a level of mediocrity fans have seen all season long.
While Joc Pederson, arguably the league's worst hitter this year, has seen recent success at the plate, others aren't as lucky. Two that stand out are Adolis Garcia and Marcus Semien, who are statistically two of the worst qualified hitters in MLB.
Over the six games last week, Garcia went 5-for-26 (.192) with 8 strikeouts and an absurd amount of runners left on base. He's also homered just nine times since June 3, which is typically Garcia's calling card. As for Semien he has a bottom tier average, OPS and slugging percentage among the entire league's 158 qualified hitters.
Freeman for the season is hitting .331 with 18 home runs and 69 RBIs during his 93 game sample size in Round Rock. He also has begun to expand his defensive skillset to the outfield after orginially being drafted and mostly playing his pro career at third base.
The organization's move to get Freeman outfield reps made fans wonder if Freeman could perhaps be on his way back to Arlington to take Evan Carter's spot before the outfielder went on the IL. But alas, it didn't happen.
