As the 2025 trade deadline ticks closer and closer, the Texas Rangers have been consistently connected to several of the top bullpen arms that other teams have made available.
While all that is good and well, the Rangers are also in desperate need for additional offensive weapons to step in to fill the massive holes some of their current players are leaving.
The offense has been one of their biggest struggles all season after the signings of Joc Pederson and Jake Burger turned out to be less successful than they were hoping. Combine that with the fact the rest of the lineup seemingly having another poor season, the team was doomed from the start.
Good news remains as the trade deadline continues to heat up and there are several teams ready to part ways with.
Marcell Ozuna, Ryan O'Hearn should be top of Rangers' offensive wish list
The Braves and Orioles have reached a point neither team has seen over the last few seasons, the seller's table. Both have underperformed greatly this year and find themselves several games below .500 and near the bottom of their respective divisions.
With that comes the luck for other teams looking to acquire some of their top talent. For the Rangers that includes Atlanta's DH Marcell Ozuna and Baltimore's 1B Ryan O'Hearn.
O'Hearn, a first time All-Star in 2025, is hitting .283 with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs this season. He is also a killer against four-seamers and right-handed pitching which is a fit that Texas is in desperate need of.
As for Ozuna, he's coming off one of the best seasons of his career in 2024 and has 15 homers and nearly 50 runs batted in to his stat line this season as well. Mostly serving as a DH, he could easily take the place of the ghastly .123 batting average from Joc Pederson.
Who else should the Rangers inquire about?
As for others, it really depends on the level of talent President of Baseball Operations Chris Young is willing to part with. I'd imagine the only untouchables would be Sebastian Walcott and Malcolm Moore, so that does leave a little room to play.
Keep in mind, they still will part ways with prospects to get a bullpen arm or two so not all will be free for offensive help.
I'd like to see Texas inquire about Chicago's Luis Robert Jr., Angels' Taylor Ward and for good measure Boston's Jarren Duran.
Duran probably calls for a bigger trade return than Robert or Ward but it would still help to call their respective front offices about.
