The Texas Rangers will officially be without one of their best players for the foreseeable future. After spending several days trying desperately to balance playing Corey Seager every now and then while he was still nursing a sore hamstring, the star shortstop has officially landed on the 10-day IL.

The news is hardly surprising as he's sat more often than he's played since the weekend. However, it does come as terrible news for an offense that hasn't been very good this season. That offense managed to score just two runs off the lowly Colorado Rockies without Seager in the lineup on Monday night.

Rangers place Corey Seager on IL, activate Kyle Higashioka in corresponding move

If there is a bit of good news for the Texas Rangers mixed in with the bad, it's that the team placed Seager on the IL and activated catcher Kyle Higashioka from the injured list at the same time.

That move was also one that was far from surprising. It was thought the Rangers might activate Higgy yesterday after finishing a rehab assignment. It seems likely that POBO Chris Young wanted to see if Seager could stay off the IL before officially making a move.

On the season, Seager is hitting .300 with 6 homers and 12 RBI. It's his second stint on the Injured List already this season with the hamstring pull and one has to think that he's going to be spending more than the minimum this time around.

Meanwhile, Higashioka is hitting .254 with 1 home run and 8 RBI. The most interesting thing about him being activated in exchange for Seager is that the Texas Rangers are now carrying three players who primarily play catcher. However, in his first game back, Higgy is playing DH with Jonah Heim catching.
