Phillies agree to deal with Rangers World Series hero Adolis García
The Philadelphia Phillies and former Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis García have agreed to a one-year deal, according to Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com. García will earn a guaranteed $10 million on the contract.
The Rangers non-tendered García last month in an effort to reduce payroll and reform their struggling offense, which ranked 26th in OPS (.683) last season. Without García, Texas will most likely primarily rely on an outfield consisting of Wyatt Langford, Evan Carter and Brandon Nimmo, whom the Rangers acquired from the New York Mets last month in exchange for second baseman Marcus Semien.
Rangers fans will primarily remember García for his vital role in giving Texas its first World Series Championship in franchise history. During the 2023 regular season, García was worth 4.5 bWAR and slashed .245/.328/.508 (127 OPS+) with 39 homers and 107 RBI as a strong defender in right field. During the 2023 playoffs, he went 20-for-62 with eight home runs, one double, three walks, two stolen bases and 22 RBI in 15 games. His most famous moment as a Ranger came in Game 1 of the 2023 World Series, when he followed star shortstop Corey Seager's game-tying two-run home run in the ninth inning with a walk-off homer in the 11th to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks.

García, 32, regressed significantly after his World Series heroics, hitting .224/.284/.400 (98 OPS+) while being worth just 0.3 bWAR in 2024. He provided better defense in 2025, as displayed by his 2.7 bWAR, but still struggled offensively with a .227/.271/.394 (93 OPS+) slash line.
Adolis García is a major upgrade for Phillies, replacing Nick Castellanos in right field
The Athletic's Matt Gelb reported that García will be the Phillies' primary right fielder, increasing the likelihood of Philadelphia trading former All-Star Nick Castellanos this offseason. While García has regressed significantly over the past couple of seasons, he will still be a major defensive upgrade over Castellanos. García will join a star-studded team featuring Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, Cristopher Sánchez and more.
Last season, the Phillies lost in the NLDS to the Los Angeles Dodgers in four games after a 96-win season. While the Phillies have lost some key players this offseason, they have already demonstrated their commitment to returning to the World Series by signing García and Schwarber.
