As Opening Day inches closer, we are beginning to see the season outlook take shape day-by-day with roster moves, injuries and spring training lineup constructions.
The latest tidbit of information to drop is Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker's indication of what the lineup might look like heading into the season. This includes his top four of Brandon Nimmo, Wyatt Langford, Corey Seager and Jake Burger.
Rangers' fans also got a glimpse into Schumaker's mind regarding young lefties Evan Carter and Josh Smith heading into the regular season.
Schumaker seems committed to lineup's top four
Prior to the start of spring training, Schumaker practically confirmed the Rangers' plans for Brandon Nimmo as the team's leadoff man heading into the 2026 season. On Monday, he seemed to indicate that the three following him will be Langford, Seager and Burger.
The first three were pretty much a given, although some did argue about the order by swapping Langford and Seager in the 2-3 spots. What was unpredicted heading into spring was Burger slotting in as the cleanup batter, but he's earning that spot early in camp.
Burger, 29, is coming off a terrific week where he blasted three home runs and for his 10 spring games he's batting .318 with seven runs driven in and a 1.150 OPS. He's doing exactly what Texas needed from him after a dreadful 2025 season.
Nimmo is an elite leadoff hitter, recording career bests in almost all offensive categories and the top spot in the lineup. Following up a career .324 OPB guy will be Langford, Seager and Burger with prime chances to drive runners in.

Carter, Smith given nod of approval to face lefties
The biggest crutch for the two young left-handed hitters was how they have failed to perform against LHP early in their careers.
Smith, 28, is noticeably better than Carter but it's still an issue. During his four years in the big leagues, Smith has recorded 292 at-bats against lefties with an average at just .223 with seven home runs, 33 RBIs and eight doubles. A difference from his .240 average with 24 homers and 95 RBIs facing right-handers.
As for Carter, it's been his kryptonite since entering the league in September 2023. For his career, he's batting .083 and is yet to hit a home run against a LHP in 60 at-bats. Texastried to get Carter comfortable against lefties last spring but it was a negative experience that ended with him starting the season in Triple-A Round Rock.
Apparently, Carter and Smith have shown Schumaker positive signs this spring. A platoon will happen but at least the opportunities are promised to be there early in the season for the two to prove they are overcoming the weakness against southpaws.
