The buzz that took over Rangers spring training is turning into the surprise of the year. After a blazing hot start to 2025, Alejandro Osuna is on his way to Triple-A.

After starting the year in Double-A, Osuna raked his way to a .283/.363/.409 slash line for a .772 OPS. These numbers may not blow anyone away but they have slipped recently. His defense also earned him Texas Rangers Minor League Defender of the Month award.

Texas Rangers farmhand makes the jump to Double-A

I attribute the slide in the numbers to the May 6th date. May 6th is the day that Leody Taveras was optioned and Evan Carter was promoted to the MLB. There was no corresponding promotion to fill his place in AAA by Osuna. I imagine there was a level of distraught in Osuna that was the causation in his numbers falling.

The timing could be a reminder to Osuna of how close he is to the MLB. He is not on the 40 man roster as of now, but he is likely up next to be added.

There is a need in the Rangers outfield currently. Adolis Garcia has been incredibly volatile so far this season and if Osuna goes on a tear in Triple-A, he may make himself undeniable.

The promotion to AAA will likely represent a pivot point in Osuna's career. I would look for him to reach or surpass his .318/.390/.467 slash line for a .857 OPS with how the Triple-A ballparks play in contrast to the Double-A stadiums.

This is an exciting time for Rangers fans. Besides Evan Carter, there has been a lack of exciting outfield prospects in the Rangers organization.

I would look for Osuna to open up on a tear in Triple-A due to the reminder of how close to the MLB he is. Once he gets this boost up, I expect him to turn on the jets and fast track himself to playing right field in Arlington.
