The Texas Rangers' season has certainly not gone according to plan so far. The offense has been mostly incredibly frustrating, and the bullpen has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride. If there has been one aspect of the team that has been consistently good, it's been the rotation, especially Jacob DeGrom and Nathan Eovaldi.
The two veteran hurlers were brought to the Rangers because they've been through one pennant race after another. They're used to the rigors of a long season. They've dealt with wins, losses, injuries, and everything in between. And yet, both pitchers arguably have the best seasons of their careers.
While the Texas Rangers are disappointing so far in 2025, Degrom and Eovaldi have pitched well enough, often enough that plenty of eyes are watching. They've pitched well enough that both are- according to Manny Randhawa of MLB.com - "leaders in the clubhouse" for the AL All-Star team.
Jacob DeGrom and Nathan Eovaldi just gave Rangers fans a reason to smile
When making the case for DeGrom, the writer pointed out things Rangers fans already know. The pitcher has always had incredible talent. The question is whether he can pitch an entire season. So far, so good on that front.
There were some concerns about his last start, on Memorial Day against the Toronto Bluejays, since it was his first career outing without a strikeout. However, DeGrom said he was fine and didn't have his best stuff.
In regards to Eovaldi, consistency is key for the MLB analyst.:
"[Jesus] Luzardo (2.15) and Eovaldi (1.60) tied for fifth in our second team balloting. The former has always had tremendous stuff but he's putting it all together in 2025. The latter has proven his mettle as one of the best starters in baseball over the past several years."
Texas Rangers fans might wonder why anyone should care about the All-Star game while the season goes down the drain. But making the teams is still an honor that stands out, and with two pitchers having the kind of seasons Jacob DeGrom and Nathan Eovaldi are putting up, stats are worth enjoying while it's happening.
