The Texas Rangers are, among other things this offseason looking for a new manager. The team announced on Monday night that the two sides had decided not to pursue a fourth season with Brice Bochy as manager.
The announcement came on the same day that the San Francisco Giants fired manager Bob Melvin and the Minnesota Twins fired manager Rocco Baldelli. The Melvin move had started some people thinking that perhaps Bochy might decide he'd like to head back to the club he won three World Series with, though that is far from a done deal.
Texas Rangers part ways with Bruce Bochy
The Baldelli firing had less of a direct impact on Bochy and his status with the Rangers, though obviously it showed that teams were wanting to figure things out as quickly as possible. POBO Chris Young, not one to ever rest on his laurels, moved as quickly as the other teams making a change for the offseason.
It's possible that while Bochy won't be the manager anymore, he could still remain with the organization. MLB Insider Robert Murray reported that the team would like to see the famed manager move into the front office.
It is possible, considering Bochy's health and his age, that he'd rather work in Major League Baseball in a position where he doesn't need to go on the road unless he wants to. The grind of a 162-game season is hard on young players, the now former Texas Rangers manager will be 71 next season.
