While the Texas Rangers are trying everything they can to stay in the playoff race, and they rack up one season-ending injury after another, the club still has quite a few bright spots down on the farm. The team's No. 8 prospect, Caden Scarborough, is one of those hurlers who are hinting that the future could be quite bright.
Scarborough is in just his second year of professional baseball, but he's been red hot in 2025 and just recently got promoted from Low-A to High-A. More importantly, once he was called up to another level, he continued to show the kind of dominance that has benefited him greatly so far this season.
Caden Scarborough is the Texas Rangers' pitching prospect to watch in 2025
The young pitcher was drafted out of Harmony High School in Florida in the sixth round of the 2023 MLB draft. Texas was able to pull him away from a Dallas Baptist University commitment by paying him a hefty signing bonus of $515,000.
His first year in pro ball didn't go as planned. In just 10.1 innings pitched in 2024, the right-hander showcased his strikeout stuff as he whiffed 13 batters. However, control was an issue for Scarborough, who issued nine walks while also surrendering 13 hits.
2025 has been much better. In Single-A, the Florida native threw 75 innings, allowed just 50 hits, walked only 19 batters, and recorded 95 strikeouts. On August 21, he made his first start for High-A, where he pitched five innings, struck out 9, allowed just 1 hit, walked 1, and hit a batter.
His control issues have been fixed.
To keep moving up the ranks, the Texas Rangers will likely look to see Caden Scarborough develop his offspeed pitches more. The young hurler needs to improve his curveball and throw his changeup a little bit more.
