The Texas Rangers are still trying to hold onto their chances of making the playoffs by their fingertips. Things could get a little easier to really get back in the race in the near future, assuming it’s not already too late.
As has been the case all season, the biggest obstacle standing in the way of Bruce Bochy’s squad making the postseason is the offense. While that offense was struggling plenty with Jake Burger and Wyatt Langford in the lineup, it certainly can’t hurt to get them back in the very near future.
Burger starts rehab Tuesday; Langford to follow as Texas Rangers hunt offensive spark
Turns out that the Texas Ranges will indeed get two of their big bats back. In fact, Burger at least, could be back in the lineup by the weekend, should everything continue to go well.
The first baseman is working his way back from an oblique injury and he’s about to go out on a rehab assignment on Tuesday. Should he look good when he does it, he’ll be able to be activated and in the middle of Bochy’s lineup by the weekend.
While things are not as specific when it comes to Langford, Bochy did say that the outfielder is “right behind” Burger. That would seem to indicate that Langford will also start a rehab stint at the end of this week or weekend. Lanford is more likely to be back at the end of next week, assuming he has a minimum time spent on the IL.
Barring any setbacks with either player, that should mean that both players will be back in Globe Life stadium next week at the absolute latest. The real question is whether or not the Texas Rangers can tread water enough to allow them to get back into the playoff race.
