Updated AL West, Wild Card standings after Rangers win Diamondbacks series

The Texas Rangers are two games below .500 with a 74-76 record and have a poor -44 run differential. By just looking at those numbers, it appears the Rangers have had a bad season. However, Texas is very much still alive in the playoff race.

Let's take a look at the updated American League West and Wild Card standings after the Rangers won two of three games against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix this weekend.

Luckily for the Rangers, the Houston Astros were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., this weekend. It's worth noting that the Astros hold the tiebreaker over the Rangers. Therefore, the Rangers are basically two games back of the division lead.

Updated AL Wild Card standings after Rangers beat Diamondbacks

The Rangers hold the tiebreaker over the Blue Jays because they swept them in four games back in June. Texas will host Toronto for three games next weekend. Even if the Rangers get swept by the Blue Jays, they will still own the tiebreaker. The Rangers also hold the tiebreaker over the Guardians, as Texas won four of six games against Cleveland earlier this season.

Looking ahead at the remainder of the Rangers' season

Texas has a tough stretch coming up. After a day off on Monday, the Rangers will begin a three-game series against the Red Sox at Globe Life Field on Tuesday. The Red Sox won seven of their last 10 games.

After their series against the Red Sox, the Rangers will begin a three-game set against the Blue Jays at Globe Life Field on Friday. The Blue Jays won six of their last 10 games.

If the Rangers can win just half of their upcoming six games, they should feel pretty good entering the final stretch of the season. Following the Toronto series, Texas will host the New York Mets for three games. While the Mets have played well lately, they have a poor 69-80 record.

After the Mets series, the Rangers will finish the regular season with a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field in Minneapolis. Not long ago, the Twins appeared on par with the Rangers. Now, the Twins seem like a relatively easy team to beat, as they won three of their last 10 games, lowering their record to 70-79.
