Jon Gray was a prized Texas Rangers addition alongside Marcus Semien and Corey Seager that breathed new life into Arlington. In his 4 years here, he contributed many incredible starts and had a clutch outing in the World Series.
Texas has phased him out this year without a role this season and allowed him to pitch in a hybrid role when healthy. His time in Arlington is all but over. Knowing how hard he fought for this team from 2022-2024, he will always be beloved in Arlington.
Jon Gray's Texas Rangers career appears to be over
Gray was placed on waivers late last week and went unclaimed. Following this, he would have his final outing in Toronto with an announcement following the game that he had been diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and is on the injured list.
Gray was most notably on the 2023 roster as a key contributor in the starting rotation. After moving to the bullpen for the World Series, he contributed the most meaningful bullpen outing in that series.

For his immediate future, he has a lot of things to consider. This is likely the end of his season and he is 33 years old with 9 plus years of service time and a large free agent contract under his belt. Following a major injury like he could be facing, he may be considering retirement.
If he decides to keep playing after fully recovering, he will have a place in baseball. He still has the stuff and potential to contribute to a team. He ultimately will make the decision himself.

Gray has been one of many in terms of injuries for the Rangers. Adolis Garcia is another major member of that 2023 team that has likely played his last game for the Rangers as well.
This is a stark reminder of how fast the game can catch up to somebody. Appreciating somebody while they're here and contributing is something almost any fan can do but many decide not to.
Gray may not have his number in the rafters but he will always have a ring on his finger. If this is where the road splits for the Rangers and Gray, it was well worth the ride.
