3 former Texas Rangers traded at the deadline including a 2023 World Series champion

The Texas Rangers had a rather unexciting trade deadline. Before the deadline, rumors emerged that no one on the club would be untouchable, signaling that a full-blown fire sale could be incoming. That didn't happen.

The Rangers made two somewhat notable deals ahead of the deadline, acquiring catcher Logan O'Hoppe and right-handed relief pitcher Chase Silseth from the Los Angeles Angels for infield prospect Angel Arredondo and sending utilityman Josh Smith and pitching prospect Josh Stephan to the Toronto Blue Jays for left-handed reliever Adam Macko.

Since Texas didn't make any blockbuster deals before the deadline, let's take a look at some former Rangers players involved in trades before Monday night.

1B Nathaniel Lowe - Traded from Cincinnati Reds to Cleveland Guardians

The Guardians acquired Lowe from the Reds for pitching prospect Alejandro Rivera on Monday. Lowe played for the Rangers from 2021-24. With Texas, Lowe won the 2023 World Series and a Silver Slugger and Gold Glove Award.

The Rangers traded Lowe to the Washington Nationals for left-hander Robert Garcia after the 2024 season. The Nationals released him in mid-August before he signed with the Boston Red Sox.

Lowe, 31, signed a minor-league deal with the Reds this past offseason. The first baseman has had a strong year at the plate, slashing .266/.341/.480 with 12 home runs, 17 doubles and 37 RBI.

RP Kirby Yates - Traded from Los Angeles Angels to Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates acquired Yates, 39, from the Angels for right-hander Kyle Robinson. In 27 1/3 innings across 31 appearances this year, Yates has posted a 3.95 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP and 36 strikeouts.

In his lone season with the Rangers (2024), Yates represented Texas in the All-Star Game. That year, Yates recorded a remarkable 1.17 ERA with a 0.83 WHIP, 33 saves, and 85 strikeouts over 61 2/3 innings.

SP Tyler Mahle - Traded from San Francisco Giants to Atlanta Braves

Atlanta acquired Mahle from San Francisco for right-handed reliever Anthony Molina. Mahle, who signed a one-year deal worth $10 million with the Giants this past offseason, has posted a 5.13 ERA in 94 2/3 innings across 18 starts this season.

The Rangers signed Mahle to a two-year, $22 million contract after the 2023 season. The right-hander was out with injuries for much of his Rangers tenure, making just three starts in 2024 and 16 in 2025. During his 16 starts last year, Mahle posted a strong 2.18 ERA with 66 strikeouts in 86 2/3 innings.
