While the Texas Rangers will miss the playoffs for the second straight season, their presence will still be known among former players to wear the Rangers uniform.
As the regular season is in the final weekend of play. While a lot still needs to be decided in terms of playoff bracket, the postseason is set to begin on Tuesday with the Wild Card rounds.
Situated all over the postseason, these four players and former Texas Rangers will likely make significant impact on their current teams this October.
4 former Rangers to keep an eye on during the 2025 postseason
Andy Ibanez, INF
The former free agent signing 10 years ago, Ibanez is currently playing a utility infield role with the AL Central Detroit Tigers.
Ibanez, 32, is in his third season with the Tigers and in that time has played in 302 games with a .248 average, 20 home runs, 94 RBIs and 40 doubles for a 3.5 WAR. He came up big in last fall's Wild Card round against Houston, hitting an 8th inning pinch hit three-run double to help Detroit advance to the ALDS.
In 2025, Ibanez has spent the majority of the year as Detroit's third baseman but has also spent time at first, second, short and left field. One thing is certain, the Cuban born infielder provides Detroit a lot of versatility in any spot they put him in.
Luke Jackson, RHP
This is the most recent Texas Ranger on this list, having spent 39 games with Texas before being released in July. The after a short stint with Detroit, Jackson signed with divsion rival Seattle in August and will likely be a bullpen fixture in October.
Jackson was on the mound on Wednesday to help close out the 9-2 win over the Rockies and help Seattle win the American League West for the first time since 2001. This season, the 34-year-old right-hander has a 4.17 ERA, 36 strikeouts and nine saves in 51 games.
The former Rangers first-rounder will not be Seattle's main rotation of bullpen weapons but his pitching style and high ground ball rate could prove useful for the Mariners in big spots.
Carson Kelly, C
One of the shorter tenured Rangers among the four, Kelly spent the second half of 2024 with Texas and then signed a two-year deal with the Chicago Cubs the past offseason.
The former St. Louis Cardinals second round pick has been a real bright spot for the Cubs this season. In April, Kelly played 14 games and hit .320 with six homers, 16 RBIs, 12 walks and a 1.256 OPS. He also is credited for MLB's first cycle of the 2025 season, recorded on April 1.
His 17 long balls is one off from his career high and his 50 runs driven in this season is indeed a career high for the ten-year MLB backstop. Despite a tough stretch to close out the regular season, Craig Counsell will rely on Kelly to be a trusted veteran in the club's first playoff appearance in five years.
Nathaniel Lowe, 1B
If you asked a Rangers' fan to make a list of the most impactful players in recent seasons, the 30-year-old Lowe would be among the top of that list.
A huge piece of the Rangers' rebuild and 2023 World Series title, Lowe was shockingly traded to the Washington Nationals this past offseason in exchange for left-handed reliever Robert Garcia. While he dominated the first month of the season, Lowe struggled the remainder of his Nationals' tenure before being released in mid-August.
He was then claimed by the Boston Red Sox and given a new life and in 33 games with Boston is hitting .281 with two homers, 16 runs driven in and helping solidify Boston's first base position after the Triston Casas injury.
