The good news on Tuesday afternoon is that the Texas Rangers expect star shortstop Corey Seager to return to the lineup in the series' final game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. The only thing that puts a damper on things is that Seager is returning from an injury that has put him on the Injured List several times in the last few years.
The Rangers are well aware of his repeatedly reinjuring his hamstring, and they are actively working to try and prevent it. Not just to keep him healthy but because it's become rather obvious how important it is for the offense to have him in the lineup.
The Texas Rangers have talked about Seager coming back "soon" since last week. While they have been planning for his return to the lineup, they've also been working behind the scenes to figure out how to make sure that once he's activated from his IL, it will stick. That he can finish out the year without the injury popping back up, which could, in turn, help the team make a run at the playoffs.
The Texas Rangers expect Corey Seager back Wednesday, but the real test starts after that
According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers are also not being all that forthcoming about what they're doing to figure out a solution. Texas manager Bruce Bochy said last week that while waiting to get activated, Seager went elsewhere to be "further evaluated by somebody else" to get a better feel for preventing further hamstring issues. Seager was eligible to be activated last Wednesday.
The team waited a whole week. Hopefully, whatever the evaluation showed, he is truly back.
"We just want to check everything, check all the boxes off, make sure we don't rush him and that we are doing everything we can," Bochy reportedly added. "We want to make sure we don't rush him. We want to get a little further evaluation and see if there is any adjustment we could do on the rehab, the strength and going forward."
Considering the Texas Rangers have said that when Seager comes back this time, they don't want to have to "manage" an injury that has kept him on the IL three times since 2023, it appears they think the problem is as close to solved as they can get. Certainly, all eyes will be on how often he plays and how well he plays in the coming days and weeks.
