The 2025 MLB trade deadline is less than one week away and the Texas Rangers have done what they needed to do to convince the front office they are still in the postseason hunt and need reinforcements.

Sitting at 53-50, their best mark since April 25, Texas is only 1.5 games back in the American League Wild Card race and attempting to close a larger 8 game gap in the AL West division race. Winners of 12 of their last 18 games and coming off their first sweep of the season over the Athletics.

All that in mind, the Rangers could just be a handful of reinforcements away from making a serious run back to the postseason. Especially with the hot hand of Corey Seager leading the way.

MLB insider tends to think Texas will lean toward adding, but maybe not going overboard

Earlier this week, in ESPN's MLB Insider Jeff Passan's latest trade deadline preview, he listed Texas as a team that will be "adding, but not all in." Now what does that mean exactly?

According to Passan, he says President of Baseball Operations Chirs Young is in win-now mode and will basically need convincing to offload players. And obviously, his players are doing to opposite, convincing him they need additional help.

On Monday. Young told 105.3 The Fan, "I'm not sure there's anything externally that can upgrade or improve our team more than getting the best versions of the current players we have." Rightfully so that has ruffled a few feathers within the fanbase and it's clear to see on the open market there are better options for some of the lackluster positions on the Rangers' roster.

Their biggest needs remain first base, designated hitter and the bullpen. Josh Naylor is already off the board, having been traded to Seattle on Thursday, but Atlanta's Marcell Ozuna and Baltimore's Ryan O'Hearn are still attractive names.

Passan believes Ozuna would be the best fit for Texas. It's not a terrible decision despite Ozuna's down year at the plate. But O'Hearn should be higher on the priority list given his better overall season and ability to play first base.
