Today is the day. The Texas Rangers begin their quest for a second World Series title this afternoon at Globe Life Field against hard-throwing left-hander Garrett Crochet and the Boston Red Sox
We also have an official Opening Day roster have days of speculation on which players did enough or failed to display enough to make the team. Here is the full breakdown of the roster as well as the lineup this afternoon against Boston.
Rangers Opening Day Roster
The Rangers will open the 2025 regular season with this 26-man roster. Not much shock value with this roster construction but notable absences include Cody Bradford, Evan Carter, Dane Dunning and Jon Gray. Carter and Dunning will start the year in Triple-A Round Rock while Bradford and Gray suffered injuries in the middle of spring training and will start on the injured list. Two guys to keep an eye out for would be outfielders Kevin Pillar and Leody Taveras, who have potential to surprise fans.
Pitchers: Shawn Armstrong, Marc Church, Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, Robert Garcia, Gerson Garabito, Luke Jackson, Jack Leiter, Tyler Mahle, Chris Martin, Hoby Milner, Kumar Rocker, Jacob Webb
Catchers: Jonah Heim, Kyle Higashioka
Infielders: Jake Burger, Ezequiel Duran, Josh Jung, Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Josh Smith
Outfielders: Adolis Garcia, Wyatt Langford, Joc Pederson, Kevin Pillar, Leody Taveras
Rangers Opening Day Lineup
This is a mixture of usual/unusual lineup that will come this season for Texas. First off, Seager will be the team's DH as he is still dealing with a core calf and Josh Smith will replace him at short. Outside of that the structure isn't totally off from what you will see for a lineup against a left-hander this year. Perhaps the biggest surprise is Higashioka's start over Heim. I can envision seeing Joc Pederson as well get a pinch hit chance late in the game as well.
2B, Marcus Semien
DH, Corey Seager
LF, Wyatt Langford
RF, Adolis Garcia
1B, Jake Burger
3B, Josh Jung
CF, Kevin Pillar
C, Kyle Higashioka
SS, Josh Smith
Rangers Opening Day Starting Rotation
For at least the first two go-arounds for the Rangers in 2025, this will be the starting rotation. The question remains what will happen when Patrick Corbin is officially ready near the middle of April and when Bradford and Gray eventually return. For right now, this is how the rotation will go with deGrom further down the line, expected to make his first start Sunday afternoon and the former Vandy co-aces getting a chance to show their skills early in the season.

Rangers Opening Day Bullpen
The bullpen has the biggest questions marks going into 2025. We aren't quite sure how it'll play out but the Rangers did the best they could this winter to replace the missing production they received from Kirby Yates, David Robertson and Jose Leclerc. It'll be interesting to see if someone emerges as the team's closer, similar to Yates last season. The team will hopefully get a much-needed boost when Texas finally gets Josh Sborz back, who is currently recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
