The first full week of spring training in March is nearing its end as the Texas Rangers prepare to face off against a National League team and familiar foe in Cactus League play this weekend.

Here's some of the top news of the last few days coming out of Rangers' camp.

Pirates legend Andrew McCutchen officially reports to Rangers camp in Surprise

A day following the news of the 39-year-old former National MVP joining the Rangers on a minor league deal, the club made it official and the outfielder/DH reported to Surprise, Arizona rocking a No. 4 Rangers' workout shirt.

McCutchen is eyeing a roster spot as a platoon DH/OF for Texas. His real shining moment is his ability to hit against left-handed pitchers, with a 2025 slash line of .267/.353/.389. It's unclear when fans will see him in a Cactus League game but it's likely he will suit up for some backfield games and ready to play any role Texas might need.

Offense puts up double digits in back-to-back games this week

The biggest gripe of the past two seasons from Rangers' fans was the lack of offensive firepower and productivity, including a bottom five offense last season. Yes, it's only spring training, but the offense has a current slash line of .273/.365/.418 with 13 home runs and 74 RBIs in 14 games.

Over the last couple of games alone, Texas has put up 41 runs, winning four the team's last five games. We saw a two-homer game from Josh Smith on Wednesday, back-to-back games of a homer for Jake Burger, Wyatt Langford went deep on Thursday and Tyler Wade continues his hot ways.

Rangers make first round of spring training roster moves

Earlier this week Texas made their first roster moves, optioning a handful of the organization's top prospects back to minor league camp: pitchers Emiliano Teodo and Winston Santos, top prospect Sebastian Walcott (currently injured), infielder Richie Martin Jr. and five others.

Majority of the news was moving injured players like Walcott and pitchers Declan Cronin and Nabil Crismatt off the roster to narrow down their options as Opening Day inches closer and closer by the end of the month.

Top prospects making massive impact in big league camp

Spring is a chance for top 30 prospects to turn heads among their organization's front office and coaching staff. Among those names are 25-year-old Aaron Zavala and 23-year-old Cameron Cauley.

Zavala is 11-for-22 (.500) with an .864 slugging percentage, 1.386 OPS, two home runs, seven RBIs and 19 total bases. Cauley, Texas's 13th-overall prospect, is batting .346 with a homer, three RBIs and a massive 1.008 OPS in 26 at-bats.

Rangers play split squad games versus Giants, Angels this weekend

This weekend, Cactus League play continues as Texas will face off against the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Angels on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Jacob Latz is expected to start on Saturday in Scottsdale with the Sunday starter still TBD against the division rival Angels.

Since Corey Seager and Wyatt Langford sitting during Friday's loss against Seattle, expect the pair to be featured at the top of the lineup on Saturday. Texas enters the weekend with an 8-6 record.
