With the outburst, the Texas Rangers add to an odd and inconsistent season

The Texas Rangers put up three touchdowns and a missed PAT on Wednesday night as they throttled division rival L.A. Angels 20-3. It is the first time the team has scored at least 20 runs in a game since July 2011, against the Minnesota Twins.

When Los Angeles Angels interim manager Ray Montgomery decided to raise the white flag in Wednesday night's 20-3 throttling at the hands of the Rangers, he was trying to save his bullpen arms and hopefully limp to the finish line somehow. Instead, he extended the game by an hour and put a serious dent in the Angels' team ERA.

But just because the Rangers teed off on some laughable batting practice pitching to get to the 20-run plateau doesn't diminish the impressive feat one bit.

Several Rangers padded their stat line on Wednesday

The scoreboard has some seriously crooked numbers on it as the Rangers scored 4,3,0,4,1,0,8,0 by inning in the 17-run, 22-hit blowout. They rocked the Angels' starter, Jack Kochanowicz, for 10 earned runs in 3.1 innings, and just piled it on from there.

The biggest beneficiaries of the clown show the Angels ran out in the last two innings were Kyle Higashioka, who launched a 3-run bomb off designated hitter Niko Kavadas, and Adolis Garcia, who drove in 2 of his 5 RBIs against 1B Oswald Peraza, who was lobbing lollipops at 35 mph.

The outburst is yet another anomaly in what has been an up-and-down season

This was not the same team that struggled to score in the first three months of the season. It leaves many fans wondering where these scorching hot bats have been hiding as the team boasts a +80 run differential, but couldn't get the job done in the clutch all season.

With the win, the Rangers are still 6 runs back of the Houston Astros in the AL West, and 4.5 games back of the Boston Red Sox in the wild-card race.
